My industry.
And it’s leaving a lot of people behind.
They tell me how scary it is. How fast technology is moving.
There’s real fear in their eyes.
I get that.
Several years ago, I took a long hard look at the industry and saw the coming digital transformation. But instead of being afraid of the future, I had a different feeling. A tremendous sense of excitement.
What I saw was… real opportunity.
A light clicked on – these changes could be a good thing. Good for us. Great for our clients.
So there was a choice to make.
I could stay right where I was. Become a dinosaur who embraced the way things have always been done. Just keep my head down and hope extinction wouldn’t come for me too quickly. Or…I could face the future with an open and eager mind.
Think for a minute about everybody’s favorite company, Amazon. Go back in time when they started selling books online, just 25 years ago. People were saying it would never work. Selling online was nice. But who could compete with huge brick & mortar booksellers like Barnes & Noble or Waldenbooks?
Not only did Amazon take over the book-seller universe, its long-view of the world has forever changed commerce as we know it. Still, for years and years, people and companies kept doubling down on the old way of doing things. They are surely paying the price now.
Look around.
All of us in logistics are standing at one of those clear-eyed moments right now.
There are so many incredible things happening in the industry. It’s growing like never before. All because of a digital revolution that’s making our business so much more efficient, more transparent.
I for one, embrace this brave new logistics world. And we’re here to partner with hard-working transportation professionals – offer them the knowledge, and the ability to take full advantage of the latest technology.
